Food/Grocery Shopping

Senior Hours at Stores

Target: The first hour of opening on Wednesdays is reserved for seniors and those with underlying health conditions. Check your local store for times.

Publix: Tuesdays and Wednesday 7 am to 8 am for people 65 years or older. This includes the pharmacy.

Winn-Dixie: Open 8 am to 9 am, Monday-Friday, for the elderly and at-risk.

Whole Foods: Opening one hour before store opening for customers 60 or older. Check your local store for times.

Fresh Market: Monday-Friday 8 AM-9 AM opening for Seniors.

Dollar General: Opening one hour before store opening for Senior customers. Check your local store for times

Delivery Options

·   Instacart: a grocery delivery service operated by Publix

 ·   Postmates: another online delivery service, can bring you food from any grocery store or restaurant

·   Shipt at Target: Similar to Instacart, Target has a same-day delivery service called Shipt.

-    Due to high demand, they may not be delivering to your home. Select the specific item you would like, and on the right hand side you will be able to see if it is available for delivery.  

·   Amazon Prime Whole Foods Delivery – Amazon Prime holders can order online at Wholefoods and get their groceries delivered within the next 2 or 3 days. Currently, they are operating out of the Downtown and North Miami locations. 

Miami has currently closed all food establishments for in-dining service, however take out and delivery is still available. Please contact your local restaurants to see if they are providing these services.

-   They are currently providing access to the food bank by appointment only. You can call the above number and make an appointment for you and your family.

·   Meals on Wheels

-   Eligible Meals on Wheels participants receive 7 free frozen meals, fresh fruit, milk, and other food items a each week at their residence. The meals are delivered between 8 am and 5 pm weekdays.

-   You must be at least 60 years old with a disability or homebound. Spouses are eligible without any age restrictions or medical conditions

Prescriptions

·  All Walgreens locations are currently offering free delivery services for people who need to stock up on prescriptions

-   You can call your local Walgreens to place an order

-   The order may be same or next day delivery

-   Drive-through pick up will remain open for locations that offer regular drive-through services (there are no locations on Miami Beach that have drive through options)

·   CVS also has free delivery services online You can call their hotline at 1-888-300-4419

Transportation

Jewish Community Services provides transportation to hospital/ clinic visits  Call 305-673-8658

-   They are currently only providing private transportation for individuals, rather than their regular van services with multiple people

 Testing

·    If you are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 or you are a resident in a community where there is ongoing spread of COVID-19 and develop symptoms of COVID-19, call your healthcare provider and tell them about your symptoms and your exposure. They will decide whether you need to be tested, but keep in mind that there is no treatment for COVID-19 and people who are mildly ill may be able to isolate and care for themselves at home.

·    The City of Miami Department of Fire-Rescue is offering in-home COVID-19 testing for seniors, age 65 and over, who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and have no access to transportation. Contact: 305-960-5050
