Temple Beth Sholom is blessed to have so many visionary member families who have graciously decided to establish specific named funds in order to support a certain area of the Temple where they see a particular need. These funds have been launched by our benefactors who have given generously to ensure the success of the fund. These are known as restricted funds and are different than the fundraising for our Legacy Endowment in that they are for a specific purpose and those who contribute to them after they are established are seeking them out to support a friend or family member’s fund.
Our philanthropic members have set up these funds listed below for a variety of reasons that strike a personal chord within their hearts. Be it as a means of memorializing or honoring a loved one, commemorating a special event, scholarships, teen trips to Israel, The March of the Living or innovative educational endeavors; the funds are enhanced even further as during the course of each year, often friends and family members of the donors contribute to the growth of each fund, when an opportunity arises for them to make a donation such as for a bar or bat mitzvah, anniversary, Yahrzeit, etc.

Being long time members of Temple Beth Sholom, Donna and Arnie Blaustein set up the Blaustein Enrichment Fund to celebrate their anniversary. The fund was set up in order to support education enrichment by bringing educators and/or scholars to TBS to lecture, teach and train.
The Broad Bussel family have been Temple Beth Sholom members for 80 years. In recognition of the fact that both TBS and education have played major roles in their lives, the fund was created in 2013 to support unbudgeted educational programming at TBS’ School for Living Judaism, also known as jLAB. Formerly known as the Broad Bussel Innovative Educational Fund.
In 2013, David Dubrow tragically passed away at the age of 21. David grew up at Temple Beth Sholom, went to our Foundation School and to the School for Living Judaism. The Dubrow family decided to establish the David M. Dubrow Memorial Fund, creating a dedicated perpetual scholarship fund with the goal of providing the opportunity for TBS teens with financial need to participate in Israel-based programs.
The Edie Laquer Fund at Temple Beth Sholom was created by The Laquer Foundation and plays a key role in subsidizing our senior congregants who are on low or fixed incomes and unable to contribute full dues to our synagogue. This critical fund helps TBS welcome and serve a large number of seniors.
Funding to promote the Foundation Level programs of Temple Beth Sholom’s Innovative School (TBSIS).
The Harvey Chaplin Fund was created to support engagement opportunities for The Tribe, an inclusive community for South Florida’s young Jewish professionals, and others who are not currently affiliated with a synagogue. Through fun and meaningful activities, Temple Beth Sholom provides space to connect, belong and be brought closer to Judaism.
The Jane and Jerrold (z”l) Goodman Fund was established to provide scholarships for Temple Beth Sholom youth in financial need. These scholarships include TBS school tuition, Reform movement summer camp, and Temple sponsored trips to Israel and other destinations.
The Jo Ellen Levinson Youth Fund was established in 1969 by Vivian and Bud Levinson (z”l) in memory of their daughter Jo Ellen. The Levinsons were a founding family of TBS and their fund created the original Youth Center, which was near our current campus. In 2023, Shelly and Aubrey Reiter continued the philanthropic legacy of Shelly’s parents to benefit our youth. The purpose of the fund is to help create and enhance spaces for children and teens at the temple.
The Keren Dorim Fund (Light of Generations) was set up to honor Rabbi Gary and Joanie Glickstein commemorating 25 years at Temple Beth Sholom. As part of the fundraising around this milestone, the congregation established this fund at their 25th anniversary event. Its purpose is to further programming for generations and special projects. Keren Dorim has supported youth programs such as J-Travel, scholarships to attend Camp Coleman and Israel experiences, and has brought guest speakers to the Temple.
The Umlas Family have been active and long-term members of Temple Beth Sholom, after joining in 1996. Rachel and Marc’s children, Jordan, Hannah, and Max, grew up in the temple and experienced many youth programs, including the Foundation School, religious education, URJ camp, B’nai Mitzvah programs, BESHTY, and so much more. To reflect the family’s love and appreciation of music and their affinity for their synagogue, the Marc Umlas Memorial Music Fund was established in 2023 to support our cantorial initiatives, which brings year-round joy and comfort to our congregants.
In 2021, Temple Beth Sholom created this fund in memory of our beloved Morah Shula. She loved her students and worked diligently and with great dedication to teach Hebrew and to instill the spirit of modern Israel into the culture of the Temple and the community. This fund provides Hebrew education at TBS for students in need of financial support.
The Ossip Memorial Fund was set up by Dr. Bobbi Ossip in honor of her parents Jeanne and George Ossip. The fund was set up to support the School for Living Judaism, also known as jLAB.
This fund was set up to honor Rabbi Gary Glickstein on his 18th anniversary with Temple Beth Sholom. Its purpose is to provide scholarships for Israel, Jewish camping and leadership experiences.
The Forward Fund was created when our new Senior Rabbi was announced and donations were made in her honor. It provides monetary support for new and innovative projects that aren’t covered in the temple budget, such as Panim el Panim (Face to Face), an opportunity for members to connect in small group settings with meaningful conversations and shared interests. This fund enabled the purchase of newly released High Holy Day prayer books for youth and family. It also helps to fund our URJ CLASP Fellow (Camp Leadership and Synagogue Professional). The goal of this new position is to energize our youth program and increase recruitment for URJ summer camps, an experience which has a lifelong impact on Jewish engagement.
Rabbi Harry Jolt was the Auxiliary Rabbi at Temple Beth Sholom for over 30 years. He retired from a successful career in the Conservative movement to become an important part of our Temple’s community. The fund was set up to provide funding for general scholarships that may be used towards Camp Coleman, Israel trips and youth programming.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Jo Asmundsson (Jose Doreen) was a long-time member of Temple Beth Sholom who left a legacy in her will to create the Rabbi Robert A. Davis Fund. This fund was created to benefit youth with financial need at Temple Beth Sholom and offers access to a Jewish education. This includes school programs, summer camp and Israel trips.
Richard Sharpstein was a long-time member of Temple Beth Sholom and was deeply devoted to caring for individuals in need. His tragic and untimely death in 2013 evoked an outpouring of love and support from hisfamily and friends. As a result, the Richard A. Sharpstein Humanitarian Fund was established in his memory. It’s goal is to raise money to provide food and lift the spirits of individuals in need in our community and beyond, something Richard did with a full heart on an ongoing basis.
The Mordujovich family have been members at Temple Beth Sholom for over 40 years. When Malka and Jorge’s daughter Sandra passed away at too young an age, they decided to start a named fund in Sandra’s memory to support causes that were important to Sandra. Sandra was a teacher who loved to teach children about the Siddur and other aspects of Judaism. The fund was set up to provide funding to youth projects.
Shirley Miller was a very active leader at Temple Beth Sholom, which included serving on the board of trustees and on the school’s board. This fund was set up in Shirley’s memory by our Sisterhood to provide funding and scholarships for Israel trips for teens through the Sisterhood/Women of Reform Judaism.
Marte and Paul Singerman and Rachel Pollock Singerman set up this fund in memory of Paul’s brother Rick Singerman. The Singerman Family Fund provides monetary assistance to Mazon for the feeding of the homeless. Mazon is a Temple Beth Sholom group of more than 40 volunteers whose mission is to provide, prepare, and serve a monthly wholesome dinner to the homeless residents of the Chapman Partnership.
Temple Beth Sholom holds a special meaning for Alex and Robyn Tolston and their three children, Avery, Morgan and Cooper. Alex and Robyn were married by Rabbi Davis. Their son, Cooper, is currently a student at Temple Beth Sholom’s Foundation School, and Avery and Morgan both attended. The Tolston Family established this fund to give back to the place that has been so impactful to their lives. The Fund provides scholarships for families with financial need who wish to enroll their children in the Foundation School, as well as funds dedicated to helping revamp the outdoor playground.
The Zinn Family Foundation has a focus on Israel and fosters our relationships with the people of Israel. It is currently facilitating our Temple’s partnership with the Rosh Pina congregation in the Upper Galilee and plans to bring the rabbi to visit our TBS community.
Cheryl and Steve Zuckerman were married by Rabbi Pomerantz in 2002. Their daughters, Hannah and Myla, attended Temple Beth Sholom’s Foundation School. The love that the family felt for the school grew stronger with each passing year. When their youngest daughter graduated from the Foundation School, they planned to give back to the place that brought them so much joy. The Zuckerman Family Foundation School Scholarship Fund provides scholarships for families with financial need who wish to enroll their children in our Foundation School.
