Youth Groups

Beth Sholom Temple Youth (BESHTY) is our youth program. Youth group is a way to strengthen children's involvement in their Jewish community by doing activities that are social, educational, religious and social action. Our children are the leaders of tomorrow and BESHTY wants to provide them with all the knowledge and resources to help them be successful as they grow into young adults. Membership applications for all BESHTY Youth Groups will be available soon. For more information, contact Rabbi Amy Morrison at 305.538.7231 ext. 135.

Micro BESHTY
Micro BESHTY gives our 3rd and 4th graders the first glimpse of youth groups. It offers an experience that allows your child to venture out of the classroom for fun, educational and memorable experiences. They meet on alternate Mondays during our mid-week program from 4:45-5:30 p.m. and go on outings on a monthly basis. The 4th graders will go on an annual retreat during the spring.

Mini BESHTY
Mini BESHTY is for our 5th and 6th graders. They participate in social, educational, and creative activities throughout the year. Mini BESHTY meets weekly on Thursdays during our mid-week program from 3:30-5:30pm for programs with various Jewish content, sports, snacks and more! Participants enjoy both onsite and offiste excurions monthly and attend an annual retreat in the spring.

Junior BESHTY
Junior BESHTY gives 7th and 8th graders an opportunity to be with other Jewish teens in a variety of programs including leadership, social, community outreach, religious and educational. They meet on alternate Tuesdays from 6:15-8:00 p.m. for dinner, programs and meetings. There are events scheduled monthly including Shabbat dinner, sporting events, Shul-Ins and more. Junior BESHTY is given their first glimpse of North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY) at Hatikvah Kallah in spring semester.

Senior BESHTY
Senior BESHTY is open to our 9th –12th graders and are involved in NFTY. They meet every other Tuesday from 6:15-8:00 p.m. for dinner and a mix of programs that include topics on current events, religion, social action, leadership and education. This gives our high school students a chance to spend time with their Jewish friends and peers. There are monthly outings which include overnight trips, retreats and NFTY regional and national events.

NFTY
BESHTY is part of NFTY-STR (Southern Tropical Region). NFTY-STR brings together Reform Jewish Teens from Central Florida to the Keys. The members come together at many times during the year for learning, fun worship, community service and fellowship to help teens throughout the region build and strengthen lifetine ties with each other and Reform Judaism.

Teen Tuesday
There are a number of programs available for our teens following B’nai Mitzvah. We feel that Jewish learning is a life-long process and that some of the most crucial years in terms of Jewish impact are the teen years. Our classes meet each Tuesday from 6:15-8:00 p.m. We have classes beginning in 7th grade and continuing through 12th grade. The curriculum is a varied one that uses computers, films, arts, text study, and guest speakers. During the year, we will have a number of field trips which we feel will be beneficial for our students. They will include movies, exhibits, and special ceremonies. We look forward to a series of programs with parents and teens together. Remember, there is something EVERY Tuesday for your teen.
