JACOB’S LADDER

A URJ HURRICANE EMERGENCY RELIEF PROJECT

Synagogues across North America are collecting supplies and shipping them to the Union’s Henry S. Jacobs Camp in Utica, MS to be distributed to local agencies doing direct relief work. Temple Beth Sholom is participating in this mitzvah and we need your help!

Please bring any of the following items (they must be new, unused and only those on the list) to the reception area of the Temple’s school building by Thursday, September 29 .

· Sheets (all sizes, most common is twin size)
· Towels
· Pillows
· Blankets
· Non perishable food items that are easy to store, distribute and eat (granola bars, peanut butter crackers, PLASTIC jars)
· Ready made meals
· Dry Soup (Raman noodle soup, coup-of-soup
· Cereal
· Pasta
· Baby Food (non-glass containers)
· Canned Food
· Wet Wipes
· Diapers
· Adult Diapers (Depends)
· Feminine Hygiene products
· Toothbrushes and toothpaste
· Soap (liquid & bars)
· Shaving supplies (disposable razors, shaving cream)
· Hair brushes
· Tissues
· Toilet Paper

United Jewish Communities of North America (UJA) http://www.uja.org/

UJC has established a humanitarian relief fund to aid members of the Jewish and general communities touched by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, the Western Florida panhandle and other affected areas. In the week of September 6, UJC and their partner agencies have raised nearly $4 million to help Jewish and non-Jewish storm victims.

Congregation Bnai Israel has flown with 5 families to Miami who have been adopted by Jewish families and will be providing financial support as well as “a roof” for one year. However, they need the help of the community. If you can donate prepared meals, Publix or store gift certificates, furniture, money, create job opportunities or donate a car, please contact Brian Goodkind at 305.667-4811.

Junior and Senior Beshty: Every Teen Tuesday there will be a bake sale for the next 2 months as well as Tuesday night, September 27, Beshtyites will be holding an auction and all money will go to Hurricane Katrina Relief. If anybody would like to donate an item to be auctioned off, please contact Stephanie Cofino at stephanie@tbsmb.org

We are going to be updating this list as new needs arise and as new projects become feasible.
