Our sages teach: "You are not obligated to finish the task, but neither are you free to neglect it." Pirke Avot 2:21

Help us change the world one piece at a time through volunteering your time to a Temple Beth Sholom Tikkun Olam project.

Mitzvah

Beginning on Friday evening and throughout Shabbat, our congregation will be educated about literacy. On Sunday, over 800 volunteers will join together in 40+ different community service projects throughout the community. The day culminates with a Mitzvah Mall. Mitzvah of the Month

Each month we sponsor a collection project of a variety of different things for people in need. Hands-on action projects also take place throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to coordinate collection and hands-on projects.

There will be many projects and opportunities to help in the aftermath of natural disasters. Click here to find the current Mitzvot projects.

PACT

Miami-Dade County suffers from numerous social problems, many of which are caused by an unjust distribution of power and a lack of accountability. There are so many problems to solve… uniting with our brothers and sisters of Miami-Dade, we can overcome some of the social justice issues that are happening in front of our eyes.

PACT (People Acting for Community Together) is a coalition of 38 religious, community and school organizations that work on social justice initiatives that affect the quality of life of our diverse population in Miami Dade County.

Participate in this grassroots-lobbying initiative to improve public education, healthcare and affordable housing in Miami-Dade County.

Synagogue Sunday– Habitat for Humanity

Join volunteers from various Miami-Dade Jewish congregations at one of the Habitat for Humanity’s building sites in Miami-Dade County. Help build homes for people who have volunteered hundreds of hours of their own labor to have a chance at home ownership. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. We work from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Shalom Bayit

The Shalom Bayit Jewish Domestic Abuse Program offers victims of domestic violence free legal aid with individualized on-site legal consultations.

Its work is supported by many community organizations concerned with domestic abuse and the effect it has on Jewish women, men and children. October is nationally dedicated to raising awareness of the problem of domestic abuse. Get involved, know the facts and participate.

Yaroq- Temple Beth Sholom and The Open Tent first Jewish CSA in Florida

If you are tired of the limited options you have at the market, you wish you could do more to invest in the environment or would like to support local farmers then you would probably be interested in being a part of a new and exciting CSA (Community Supported Agricultural Initiative).

A CSA is a group of like-minded people who commit to purchase a season of produce from an organic family farm. Farm Fresh Miami will be delivering the produce to Temple Beth Sholom twice a month. Members of the CSA will be invited to free cooking classes, and other opportunities for learning. Yaroq is working with the national Jewish organization Hazon, which is promoting Jewish CSA’s throughout the country.

Kindness/Chesed Committee

The Kindness/Chesed Committee strives to promote acts of kindness among out Temple families and our community as a whole. By practicing acts of kindness, we are making the world a better place.
